logical partition

a) A contiguous area inside an extended partition that can be used by the operating system to store and retrieve files. The operating system typically assigns a letter (for example, D:, E:) to the logical drive.

b) Any partition, CD, or other storage device that contains a file system and is assigned a drive letter.
