The Windows operating system includes data that requires special handling to protect and restore properly. This data, referred to as “system information" in CPS, contains different information depending on the specific version of Windows that is installed on the system. For Windows 2000 systems, this includes a set of data that is called System State and that includes various operating system files and registry information. For those systems that support Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS), the system information consists of key elements of Shadow Copy Components including System State and Service State.
